Team #5661
Team 5661 as a third year team had their best year yet. After months of design and building, the team constructed a robot that could play all aspects of the game quickly and successfully. They competed in the first Arizona Regional in Mesa and was on the winning alliance. The team then tweaked their design and autonomous program before their next regional in Tucson where they were on the winning alliance again. 5661 was the only team to win at two regional tournaments rewarding them for all of their hard work. These victories then advanced them to the AZ/New Mexico State Championship in Flagstaff, AZ. At the State Championship 5661 continued its winning ways and played well enough to be selected to participate in the Finals. Unfortunately the alliance they were on did not advance to the semi-finals. In spite of the 5661 robot playing well, with the disappointment of not of not advancing to the finals, the team waited with anticipation for the award ceremony. The Inspire Award, the highest honor a team can receive, was still our end goal. The Inspire Award is the last award presented at the championship. Team 5661 waited with anticipation. As the other awards were being presented 5661 watched to see if they would be nominated for another award, but they were not. Their anxiety was growing and their fear for not winning anything was increasing. As the Inspire award was being announced. We were not the 2nd place winners; we were not the runner-up team, we were thew winners. We had done it; State Championships! As the team ran to the floor to accept their trophy, the celebration began. The drive back to Phoenix from Flagstaff was filled with chatter on how we did and the big question, how were we going to get to the Western Super Regional? In Sacramento
